Travessa da Ermida

Eduardo Fernandes
(Funchal, 1960)
Manager

After following his academic path at the Colégio Infante Dom Henrique and the Liceu do Funchal, Eduardo Fernandes obtains a graduation in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine in Porto. His academic path eventually led him to Spain where he finished his specialization and doctorate in Ophthalmology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He discovered the Ermida Nossa Senhora da Conceição on one of his many strolls around Belém, where he has been living in recent years. In 2004, he took the opportunity to become the owner, with the purpose of returning it to its former prestige, now as a venue of culture and art. He has recently acquired the space of the Enoteca de Belém and the Oficina de Joalharia and in 2008 the project Travessa da Ermida was born.

António Mesquita
Lisbon (1963)
Director

Graduated in Hostelry Management in the Estoril Tourism and Hostelry Superior School and Post Graduated in Hostelry Management in the European University he has managed, among others, the following restaurants: Mercado de Santa Clara, Spazio Evazione and Restaurante Kais and more recently the catering/hostelry spaces in Pavilhão Atlântico between 2002 and 2015 and in CCB between 2015 and 2017.  As sommelier he was granted several awards such as Grand Prix Sopexa Sommelier 1994 National; Tropheé Ruinart du Meilleur Sommelier d’Europe 1994 National; Counsellor Master Title in French Gastronomy 1994; Master of Port 1994 and 1995.


Fábia Fernandes
(Nampula, 1975)
Production Director

Graduated in 2017 by ISCSP in International Relations, lived, studied and worked the Tourism and Hotel sector in Stockholm, Sweden between 1994 and 2006. She also lived and worked in the Tourism sector in Greece two seasons (2002 and 2003) in Rhodes and Creete. Back in Portugal, she Post Graduates in Cultural Programming and Management at the Universidade Lusófona in the academic year of 2008/2009. In 2008 accepted the challenge of starting and coordinating the multidisciplinary project Travessa da Ermida being responsible for the study, planning, development and promotion of the entire project. Currently finishing a graduation in International Relations at ISCSP UNL.

Diogo Almeida Martins
(Torres Vedras, 1989)
Production and Exhibition Show Room Assistant

Graduated in ESAD, Caldas da Rainha, in Visual Arts. In 1991 he went to Belgium and returned in 1998. Since then were several the exhibitions he participated in: "Ermida Nossa Senhora da Conceição" at Travessa da Ermida (2016), "Meia Pensão", included in the Hotel Madrid Exhibitions Cyckle, Caldas da Rainha (2014), the exhibition "Mini Hotel", a Project with the title “Passa a Cabine”, organized by the Foundation PT / IP Leiria, Caldas da Rainha (2013), and "Em desenho", in Museu José Malhoa, Caldas da Rainha (2012). Starts as a member of our team in August 2016.

José Vaz Fernandes
(Lisbon, 1958)
Consulting

An architecture graduate from ESBAL (Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa) in 1983. He worked as an intern in the new urban centre of Santo André, in Santiago do Cacém. He developed his professional activity in the Far East, in Macao, returning to Portugal in 2000. Since then he has worked in several projects throughout the country. In 2008, he integrated the team at the Projecto Travessa da Ermida, as a responsible for the production, exhibition assembly and equipments, as well as different spaces belonging to the project.

Madalena éme
(Caldas da Rainha, 1986)
Production

Madalena éme is graduated in Art fromthe Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha (ESAD). Madalena's areas of expertise and technical skills range from Drawing, Sculpture, (plaster, fiberglass, wood, metal, mixmedia), Digital Photography, Engraving, Serigraphy, to Videoart, but she is currently working mainly in Drawing, Installation and Video. Has participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions, as well as taken part in three artistic residences, namely “Parêntesis” 2008, Peniche and Residência no Centro de Artes António Duarte, Caldas da Rainha, 2011. Has also participated in the “Novas Residências 2011: apresentação de trabalhos”, Montemor-o-Velho, 2011. In 2013 Madalena has installed "Murmúrios" in Travessa da Ermida, Lisbon and exhibited "Derradeira Condição Humana" in the Popular Art Museum, Lisbon, 2014, exhibition included in the Contemporary Art Exhibition's Cycle at MAP. In 2015 with Rúben Vieira presents at Travessa da Ermida, Lisbon "O Diálogo da Impossibilidade" and in 2016 in the Centro de Artes de Sines is one of artists part of the exhibition "Travessa da Ermida a sul".

Paulo Condez
(Lisbon, 1971)
Design

Started his professional path in Italy at the FÁBRICA atelier as a designer for COLOURS magazine. Back in Lisbon, he worked in several advertising agencies, such as Uzina and TBWA.In 2006, he founded the Estúdio de Design Gráfico- nada -, in charge of every project of the atelier, among which are worth mentioning the launch of the collection of bags Invento by designer Lidja Kolovrat, the graphic image of the Exhibitions "Cem anos da CUF no Barreiro" and “Habitar Portugal 06/08”, the creation of the graphic identity of the Edições Nelson de Matos, among others. Starts as official designer of our project in 2016.

Alexandra Corte-Real
(Porto, 1967)

After her graduation in Mathematics applied to computer sciences at the Sciences Faculty at the University of Porto and Mathematics at the Universidade Lusófona, she acquired the tools to undertake her journey to become a jeweller at the jewellers’ school Contacto Directo, and to date has exhibited her pieces in Portugal, as well as abroad.From the very beginning of her path as a jeweller, Alexandra Corte-Real has participated on several occasions in the annual exhibition of Contacto Directo, as well as others national and international shows – i.e. Artistic partnership project with P28 and the Hospital Júlio de Matos consisting in the creation of jewellery with the patients (ongoing); Forno 6X3=18, collective jewellery exhibition, Ceramic Museum, Sacavém (November, 2014); Oficina de Joalharia Alexandra Corte-Real - colective exhibition "Pare, Olhe, Sinta" (September 2012); Municipal Theatre of Funchal “Silver Embroidered Madeira” (2010); FRESS “Welcome” Laboratório #5 (2010); Serralves Museum (2009); Ermida Nª Srª da Conceição “Paralell Lines” with collaboration of Eduardo Nery (2009), “ Princípio” (2008); Manchester (2007); Silves (2005).

Nelson Guerreiro
Manager/ Head Sommelier
(Lisbon, 1976)

Portuguese National Champion of Sommeliers 2017, Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommelier he has also achieved the level two of the Wine and Spirits Education Trust in London. Works for more than 25 years in hostelry.  To focus on the guest needs and provide them unique experiences is what motivates Nelson. Fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian. Hotel Sana, Hotel Riviera, Hotel D. Pedro and the restaurant "A Commenda" in CCB, Lisbon, are among the places he has passed by before starting to work in Enoteca de Belém.

Ricardo Gonçalves
Chef
(Lisbon, 1983)

Graduated as a cook and pastry chef from the Escola de Hotelaria in Lisbon.  Worked at Pine Cliffs Resort, Algarve, Praya D'El Rey Marriot Golf & Beach Resort, Óbidos, Hotel Sana Malhoa, Restaurant Bica do Sapato and Restaurant Vírgula in Lisbon. Was trainee at Restaurant Q.B. in Oeiras and Restaurant Picollino in England. In 2007 was a trainee for one month at the Italian Restaurant Picolino in England. His first experience as a Chef was in Restaurant Esperança in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. In October 2012 embraces a new professional challenge as the chef of the Enoteca de Belém where the wine takes over an important role in his vision of gastronomy.

Ângelo Santos
(Blu-ray, 1971)
 Sommelier

Sommelier by Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa his professionalism is recognized in prestigious venues such as Gambrinus, Majesty of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Spazio Evazioni, the restaurants Augusto Gemelli or A Commenda (CCB).
His deep knowledge of wines and people make him a master in the art of entertaining and serving.

Luís Fonseca
Headwaiter
(Lisbon, 1963)

Luís Fonseca has a long experience as headwaiter and worked in restaurants as Commenda in CCB, Museu do Oriente, Doca 6, Isaura and Via Graça. With a discreet profile always focused on the client starts as member of our team in 2016.

Miguel Marques
(Lisboa, 1989)
Waiter

Miguel has started his career in 2013 as Head Waiter in the restaurant Can the Can. During 2014 was the manager of Paço de Água and in 2015 was Head Waiter in Las Ficheras and Mezcais. In 2015 accepts the challenge of being part of our team.


Punctual Projects

Agata Wiórko
(Postomino, 1988)

Studied Slavic Culture and Languages, German-English translation and did Master Degree in Cultural Studies at the University of Gdansk, moreover is finishing the Master Degree in Art Criticism at the Fine Arts Academy in Gdansk. Spent also one semester at ESAD.CR broadening the knowledge participating the course Cultural Management. 2011-2014 worked in the Art Gallery Glaza Expo Design in Gdansk being responsible for the management, sales and photography documentation. Agata recently joined the Project Travessa da Ermida to coordinate a new interdisciplinary project of a Cultural Streets Network that combines tourism, art and food&wine in the framework of an alternative concept of urban culture.

Catarina da Ponte
(Lisbon, 1984)

She graduated in Art History at the Social and Human Sciences Faculty of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and soon realized her commitment to art was linked to communication, to the optimization of relationships and the perception between the artist, the work of art and the public. She gave the first steps in this field at the Museu Colecção Berardo and some contemporary art galleries.In 2008, she co-founded the visual culture magazine Ncontrast, of which she was the editor, simultaneously perfecting her competencies at CENJOR - Centro Protocolar de Formação para Jornalistas (Protocolar Centre for the Training of Journalists).She now attends the Masters degree in “Curatorial Studies”, sponsored by the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, developing a thesis on editorial curatorship. She is the director of Makeadream – agency of Communication and Image. Catarina collaborates with us since 2008 in communication and edition of several projects as well as curator.

Mário Caeiro
(Lisbon, 1966)

A Communication Designer (ESBAL), a second degree in Compared Litterary Studies and a Master degree in German Studies (FCSH-UNL) and a Post-graduation in Urban Design (CPD/FBAUL/University of Barcelona), he designs and produces cultural and public space projects since 1984. Commissioner of exhibitions and creator of transdisciplinary initiatives, particularly «Retratos da Alma» [1995], «Um Cálice de Dor» [1999], «Lisboa Capital do Nada» [2001], «Luzboa Bienal Internacional da Luz» [2004 e 2006]. Since 2007, he has been a commissioner for several individual and collective exhibitions at Library of FCT-UNL of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In 2008 and 2009, he was a member of the organizing committees of the «Efémero.Criação.Acontecimento» and «Politíco.Criação.Valor» Conferences. In 2009, he conceived, directed and curated the SKYWAY Festival, in the Polish city of Torun, an annual initiative under his curatorhsip and artistic direction. He is a teacher at ESAD.CR since 2004. He recently was the commissioner of the exhibitions Objet Perdu at the Plataforma Revólver (2010) and Mauna at the Galeria Pedro Serrenho (2011).

Sandro Resende
(Lisboa, 1975)

Graduated from Faculdade de Belas Artes and Ricardo Espírito Santo Foundation, Lisbon, in Fine Arts in 1999, he starts teaching painting in the Fine Arts Studio at Júlio de Matos Hospital. In May 2008 starts his activity as Artistic Director and produces several exhibitions in Pavilhão 28 (28th Pavilion) in this same hospital. Since 2009 he has been responsible for the artistic direction of various projects and spaces namely Espaço3 [espaço ao cubo], at Centro Comercial Alegro Alfragide; Pavilhão 27 at CHPL; project Pampero Public Art and Public Art Interferências; Pavilhão 31 (31st Pavilion) at CHPL; CONTENTORES; project Redbull House of Art 2012; the exbition space Montra at Centro Comercial Alegro Alfragide; project Janela 2013; project 9 Museu Nacional Ferroviário 2015; Cidadela Art District, Cascais 2014. In 2015 he accepts the artistic direction of several projects for Travessa da Ermida.

Sérgio Cardoso Parreira
(Évora, 1975)

Graduated in painting in the Fine Arts College of Lisbon, started his activity of Arts and Performances producer in 1998 in theatre companies, dance and multi-disciplinary festivals. To enhance in 1998 the production and assemblage of the exhibitions of Atlantic Festival in 1999 organized by ZDB. Director of production of RE.AL Company João Fiadeiro between 2000 and 2003 assisted also the production of the Festival ACARTE in 2003at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Nowadays still works as a freelancer producer of cultural projects, enterprises, publicity agencies and marketing nationally and internationally. Collaborates with festivals, institutions and theatre and dance companies as Festival Temps d’Images, Vagar, Fosso de Orquestra, Duplacena, Museum Coleção Berardo, Culturgest and regularly with various independent projects of plastic artists, cinema and performances' arts. Becomes a member of our team in 2011 as producer of specific projects as "Almacks#1" and "Pato Mudo" beginning in November 2013 the programming and production of the temporary exhibitions of our project in the Popular Art Museum and afterwards in Convento de Cristo in Tomar.

Margarida Rocha de Oliveira

Graduated in Art History from the Social and Human Sciences Faculty of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, she worked in the educational service of the Centro Cultural de Belém, at the Museu da Electricidade - Fundação EDP and the Museu Berardo. However, her taste for writing finally directed her to the cultural press, a vocation she perfected at CENJOR - Centro Protocolar de Formação para Jornalistas. She collaborated with several publications, among which we can mention Ncontrast, DIF, Migalhas or the portal Rascunho. Currently, she is responsible for the communication in the Mercado Quebra Costas in Coimbra and the youngest editor in Efeméride.

Catarina Cruz
(Lagoa, 1985)

She is a graduate in Communication Sciences, in the Journalism area, by the Social and Human Sciences Faculty of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She also attended Carlos III University in Madrid, where she perfected her skills in the treatment of information for television, radio journalism and the management and promotion of audiovisual contents.She has collaborated with several publications, having been in the Editorial Council of Ncontrast magazine. Since 2008, she is a collaborator for Jornal de Notícias in the online and multimedia section.She is an amateur photographer and a member of ALT – Associação de Criadores de Fotografia (Photography Creators Association).

Daniela Agostinho
(Lisbon, 1985)
Proof Revision

Daniela Agostinho has a degree in Communication and Culture from the Social and Human Sciences Faculty of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and she also attended the Free University in Berlin. Pursuing he interest for the book and publishing art, she worked for two years as an editorial assistant at Editora Vega, where she had different edition, reviewing and communication roles. She is a freelance reviewer and currently is working on her doctorate in Cultural Studies at the Universidade Católica, splitting her time between Lisbon and the German capital.

Marta Branquinho
(Lisbon, 1976)
Supervision and Development


Graduated in Corporate Communication, she is responsible for Project Management and Production at Estúdio de Design Gráfico - nada-. Her Professional path has gone through account management and direction in Advertising Agencies such as Lowe, Tequila, TBWA\ Lisbon and Branding (Wolf Ollins). She has already worked with clients in different areas, such as Unilever, Sociedade Ponto Verde, Victoria Seguros, RDP, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Beiersdorf and IKEA.She attended the course of Dramatic Expression at Chapitô – a great passion and a dream she still wants to fulfil.

Rui Lacas

Illustration

His incursion in arts started at the António Arroio School, where he attended the course of Graphic Arts, following this with a Painting degree at the Fine Arts Faculty in Lisbon. He chose the career of illustrator and cartoonist. With the sense of humour that distinguishes him and in a cartoon manner, he usually writes in his auto-biographies that he was born two weeks after the Revolution in April 25th 1974. Since 1994, he has been entirely dedicated to Comics publishing several books, among which is worth mentioning “Obrigada Patrão”, that was awarded the Best Script Prize at the Festival of Les Moulins, in 2007.In 2009, the Amadora International Comics Festival (Festival de Banda Desenhada da Amadora - FIBDA) honoured him with a retrospective exhibition of his work. Currently, he is part of a collective of authors who publish his works under the ELpep seal.

Pedro Palrão
(Portalegre, 1984)
Responsible for the illustration in the “Collections” section

A graduate in Communication Design, he complemented his training with courses in web design and audiovisual design. Painting has always been his great passion and an added value in the creation of the various visual universes he materializes in his professional activity. The illustration and manipulation of images are two of the areas that give him the most pleasure and, for that reason, he is a member of the illustration and design collective “PRETA. He has been a scout for seventeen years. He breathes art, culture and Creative projects. The places that inspire him are Sintra, where he has always lived, and Barcelona, where he made his studies. He currently works in Lisbon at Makeadream, a Design and Communication company he co-founded in 2008.
